What is Belkyra?
BELKYRA IS AN INDIVIDUALLY-TAILORED, INJECTABLE TREATMENT THAT PERMANENTLY DESTROYS FAT CELLS UNDER THE CHIN.
Belkyra is an injectable drug that contours and improves the appearance of submental fullness. It is made of a substance that is naturally found in your body called deoxycholic acid. Belkyra is the only Health Canada approved injectable treatment that permanently destroys fat cells under the chin.
Belkyra is indicated for the improvement of moderate to severe convexity or fullness associated with submental fat in adults.

Moderate to severe convexity or fullness under the chin or the “Double Chin” in adults. A double chin can detract from an attractive and otherwise balanced face. Injection with BELKYRA is an effective alternative to liposuction and surgery for upper neck fullness.
In this age of selfies and looking down on reflective screens, a double chin can be hard to ignore and frustrating. Fat in the upper neck is often resistant to weight loss. And as in other areas of the body, spot reduction with exercise doesn’t help. The condition can affect adults – both men and women – of all ages, weight and gender. Submental fullness can be influenced by multiple factors including ageing and genetics, as is often resistant to diet and exercise.
What to Expect?
THE EXPERIENCE.
BELKYRA treatment involves using small needles to inject deoxycholic acid into the submental fat. This is a natural substance in bile that our bodies produce for digestion and absorption of fat.
Typically 30 minutes are booked for treatment which involves assessing and mapping the area to determine your dose. The injection time is quick. It may cause stinging, itching and redness during treatment. Ice will be applied before and after treatment for additional comfort.
How Does it Work?

Deoxycholic acid is a natural molecule found in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. Belkyra causes the lysis of adipocytes which causes a local tissue response. The cells that are broken down are then cleared through natural metabolic processes to be used for energy or stored naturally.
Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat.
How Long Do Results Last?
RESULTS ARE PERMANENT.
Yes, the effects of Belkyra are permanent. When injected, Belkyra causes the destruction of fat cells; once destroyed, those cells can no longer store fat. After your completing your recommended number of treatments and achieving your desired results; you no longer need maintenance treatments.

The dose and number of treatments are individualized. Depending on the area and amount of submental fullness 2-4 treatments are usually needed and are spaced 4-6 weeks apart.

After your treatment, patients may have inflammation with swelling, redness, nodules, itching and numbness lasting typically 2-4 weeks following the injection. Most rate these effects as mild.
Is Belkyra Right for You?

- No history of difficulty swallowing
- Not pregnant or breastfeeding
- While Belkyra is ideal for eliminating excess fat below the chin, it cannot treat laxity in the neck caused by loose muscles or drooping skin
SIDE EFFECTS:
The most common side effects following belkyra injections are swelling, bruising, discomfort, numbness, redness, and a hardness in the treatment area. These are temporary and typically resolve by themselves.
The swelling is most pronounced during the first 3-4 days after the procedure. After each treatment session, more fat fades away, typically leaving a refined neck contour and a sleeker look
